History of PSRP

Born out of the collective efforts of the Family Planning Consortium (FPC) core group, the story of the Philippine Society of Responsible Parenthood, Inc. (PSRP) is a testament to the power of collaboration and commitment to a cause.

The timeline:

      • August 2010: The Family Planning Consortium (FPC) was founded. This was a significant step as it brought together leading advocates, centers of excellence, and providers of reproductive health and family planning services in the Philippines. The FPC’s primary objective was to catalyze, harmonize, and mobilize both public and private sector efforts in advancing family planning as a critical component of achieving the Millennium Development Goals 5 and 1.
      • 2011 to 2015: The FPC worked in close partnership with UNFPA, implementing Reproductive Health (RH) and Humanitarian Response Projects. This partnership led to several notable achievements, including operational research on the adaptability of Implants in the Philippine context and training health service providers in implant insertion. In addition, during the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda, the FPC conducted reproductive health missions, offered training on Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP), provided family planning services and information, and operationalized the ‘hospitainer’ in Palo, Leyte.
      • January 2013: A pivotal moment when the FPC core group established PSRP. This move formalized the FPC’s structure as PSRP was officially incorporated as a non-stock, not-for-profit organization.
      • 2015: PSRP stepped up when the Supreme Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) preventing the public sector from procuring, promoting, distributing, and administering Implanon/Implanon NXT. The organization filled the void left by the government sector by training and mobilizing private sector midwives and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to provide implant services.
      • 2017: PSRP had become a full-fledged implementing partner of UNFPA. This was after the organization successfully passed a micro-assessment by a third-party consulting firm. By the end of 2017, PSRP had become the sole recognized trainer and certifier of health service providers for accreditation by both the Department of Health (DOH) and PhilHealth.

Today, PSRP stands as a national professional organization that’s passionately committed to upholding and promoting the highest standards of training and service delivery in modern family planning methods. The journey from inception to now is a testament to the organization’s dedication and commitment to reproductive health in the Philippines.
